Gameweek 28 in Fantasy Premier League proved to be a fairly low-scoring one, yielding an average of just 43 points as several big-hitters failed to deliver and the upcoming round will struggle to be an improvement with only four games to offer.

Blank Gameweek 29 largely excludes the premium FPL assets as well with only Tottenham and Arsenal featuring a couple of players who fall into that category.

A successful navigation through this GW would involve picking the right mid to low-range players, recognising form and underlying stats – most of all though, a Free Hit chip would prove ideal.

Tottenham’s trip to Aston Villa will draw plenty of eyeballs with popular picks in action, as will Arsenal’s visit of West Ham.

Elsewhere, a Brighton clean sheet at home to Newcastle would be a blessing for the majority of FPL managers while Fulham and Leeds could well deliver a few goals from a number of differential players.

Here are a few tips to help guide you through GW29.

    CAPTAIN – HARRY KANE | TOTTENHAM | 11.5M

    Harry Kane

Don’t let his blank in the north London derby take away from his red-hot form. Harry Kane is as good as he’s ever been and was unlucky not to bag a few points against Arsenal, having a goal ruled out for offside and even hitting the upright on one occasion.

He is undoubtedly the focal point of this Spurs attack, regardless of the form of Son Heung-min or Gareth Bale. The England skipper has three goals and two assists in his last four games. In that time, he’s also ranked top in the Premier League for shots [22], shots on target [12] and shots inside the box [8].

Meanwhile, Kane enjoys facing Aston Villa. He’s scored a brace in each of the last two meetings with the Villains.

    ALTERNATIVE

JESSE LINGARD (6.1m) is a worthy candidate for the armband given his current form and his influence in a well-drilled West Ham unit. Since his loan move to the Hammers this season, he’s only blanked once, averaging 7.3 points per game.

    BOLD CHOICE

LEWIS DUNK (5.0m) is as bold as it gets in terms of captain picks. However, despite Brighton’s clean sheets drying up to an extent in the last few games, they’ve only allowed 12 shots on target in the last five GWs and take on a struggling Newcastle attack. Dunk is also a significant threat from set-pieces with four goals to his name this season. It’s a massive punt, but if lightning strikes, it’s a veritable slam Dunk!

    ONE TO GET

    GARETH BALE | TOTTENHAM | 9.6M

    Gareth Bale

Bale’s tale of resurgence with Spurs was slightly curbed in the defeat to Arsenal but with Son out injured, the Welshman should be even more commanding in attack than he has been already. He has huge potential for big hauls with recent scores of 19 and 14 points. Not to mention the fact that he remains a very tidy differential with an ownership of under 13 per cent at the time of writing.

    ONE TO AVOID

    MATT TARGETT | ASTON VILLA | 5.1M

    Matt Targett

Matt Targett has been a perfectly solid performer this season and there’s no signs of his form dipping. However, his FPL production might start to take a dip, beginning with his encounter with a dangerous Spurs side this week. Beyond, particularly from GW31 onwards, Villa then endure a difficult run-in, one of the toughest in the league.

    BARGAIN BUY

    JOSH MAJA | FULHAM | 5.5M

    Josh Maja

Fulham needed a spark up front and while Josh Maja has provided it, his goal output is yet to reflect that. He hasn’t added to his tally since bagging a brace at Everton in GW24. However, he is certainly a forward primed for a haul and the floodgates may just open against a cavalier Leeds outfit. His xG of 3.36 over the last four GWs is the league’s highest.
