The inaugural NBA Basketball School Summer Camp in Lebanon, a joint collaboration between the National Basketball Association (NBA) Sport360, concluded successfully this weekend, marking a significant milestone in youth basketball development in the region.
Hosted at Michel El Murr Stadium in Bouchriye, the camp ran from July 29 – August 2 and welcomed 155 enthusiastic young athletes aged U8 to U18 from various parts of Lebanon.
The camp provided an exceptional platform for participants to enhance their basketball skills under the guidance of four international and eight local coaches, all trained in the NBA methodology. The program was designed to promote athletic excellence, personal growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Participants were led through skill development sessions, competitive games and scrimmages as well as a focus on fitness and conditioning.
Participants of the NBA Basketball School summer camp in Lebanon also had the chance to be selected to represent Lebanon in the NBA Basketball School 2024 Abu Dhabi Tournament in October – a cross-regional tournament that will feature international competitions between NBA Basketball Schools, appearances by NBA and WNBA Legends, and an opportunity to experience various activations centered around the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2024.
“We are delighted that the inaugural NBA Basketball School summer camp in Lebanon was a resounding success,” said NBA Senior Director of Basketball Operations, Europe and Middle East, Henry Utku.
“We hope the long-term NBA Basketball School program in Lebanon continues to provide young basketball enthusiasts to learn and develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment.”
“We are thrilled with the outcome of our first NBA Basketball School Summer Camp in Lebanon,” said Bassam Nawfal, Managing Director of Sport360.
“The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the participants were truly inspiring. Our goal was to provide a comprehensive basketball education experience, and I believe we have successfully achieved that.”
The camp’s success is a testament to the growing popularity of basketball in Lebanon and the Middle East. It also underscores the commitment of the NBA Basketball School program to nurture young talent and promote the sport globally.
The next NBA Basketball School camp in Lebanon will take place in December 2024.
