Superstar Derrick White cannot wait to help another market of impassioned fans “see us up close” when the two most recent champions, his Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets, perform in next week’s NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2024 presented by ADQ.
A range of spectacular activities are scheduled to take place in the UAE’s capital for the latest edition of these popular, annual pre-season fixtures.
Matches between the Celtics and Nuggets on Friday, October 4 and Sunday, October 6 are the main events. But, a star-studded lineup of NBA and WNBA legends and celebrities will headline “NBA Fan Appreciation Day in Abu Dhabi” on Saturday, October 5 at Etihad Arena and “NBA District” from Thursday, October 3–Sunday, October 6 at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
“I think it’s huge,” said White, a 2024 NBA Finals victor and 2024 Paris Olympics gold medallist with United States.
“I see basketball as a global game and you can see the talent level that is everywhere. Also, we have unbelievable fans everywhere.
“I think everyone at the NBA is doing a great job of getting us out there more and giving those opportunities for people to see us up close.
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone, an NBA champion in 2023, was looking forward to meeting “many wonderful people” in Abu Dhabi.
He said: “I think I speak for everybody in our travel party that we’re excited to visit a part of the world that most of us have never been to, to meet many wonderful people and to try to embrace the culture.”
